Writing titles and descriptions that get clicks

  • Title: about 50–60 characters. Put the main topic first and the brand last. Google cuts titles at roughly 600 pixels.
  • Description: about 120–160 characters. Say what the page gives the reader and why it’s better. Google sometimes rewrites it, but a good one is usually kept.
  • Make every page’s title and description unique.

Open Graph images

Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, iMessage and X all read og:image. Use 1200 × 630 px, keep text large and central, and use an absolute URL (starting with https://).

Checking copy length? The character counter shows SEO limits. Need a site icon too? Use the favicon generator.

Frequently asked questions

Do meta keywords still matter?

No. Google has ignored the keywords meta tag for over a decade, so this generator leaves it out.

Why doesn’t my new share image show up?

Social networks cache previews. Use the platform’s debugger (such as Facebook’s Sharing Debugger) to refresh it.

Will these tags improve my ranking?

The title is a ranking signal; the description isn’t, but a good one improves click-through from search results.
